I often find myself too conservative for my liberal friends and too liberal for my conservative friends. I think of Jesus words in Matthew 8:20, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” As I reflect on the call I feel God has placed on my life to live in the middle, in the tension, with secure relationships on both sides working often to be a bridge, it often feels as if I have no place to lay my head (ideologically). It can be an incredibly lonely place. But I take solace in knowing that this is where Jesus often found himself. He directed us toward a different way, a way of living that is neither right nor left, but rather is above. In the midst of all the noise of our world, It is this way of living that I continue to seek after and pursue. A non dualist way of thinking. Realizing that we all make mistakes and find ourselves in need of love, grace, and forgiveness. And then as I experience this grace, it is my hope and prayer to be able to extend the same level of grace to others.
